The inauspicious start to a movie; monday morning sickness and an encroaching deadline for a deadline. Driven by the script and the commitment of the director, Rupert Wyatt, this is a well-crafted and engaging mystery-drama. The central character, Frank Perry, is a convict in a secure hospital (I say'secure' because of the level of security required to keep such a group of prisoners inside, it's a lot like prison but with extra security measures) who has been in the facility for twelve years and has been deemed to be 'too old and dangerous' for release. He's tired of being in the institution, stuck in a cell, being treated with no respect and receiving no human contact, and with only the company of a bird that he's named Sydney. The film starts on his birthday, in the monent that he gets his first cigarette in twelve years, and as a result goes on a series of adventures with the other prisoners that he comes across. He befriends the young drug addict Lenny, and persuades him to escape from the prison. The pair then set off to carry out their plan to kill a handful of people, in order to rob them and then to escape to the sea where they hope to make it to Cuba.
