U4GM - 7 Safest Places to Farm Runes in Elden Ring Without Dying

Farming runes in Elden Ring can be a rewarding experience, but for many players—especially those just starting out—staying alive long enough to collect a decent haul can be a challenge. Based on my personal experience with multiple builds and over 200 hours in the Lands Between, I’ve put together a list of the 7 safest places to farm runes in Elden Ring without dying. These locations offer a low-risk environment, making them perfect for early-game progression, rune grinding in peace, or even preparing for tougher areas ahead.

Importantly, the first time you encounter the keyword Elden Ring Runes, you’ll want to know how essential they are to character development—from leveling up to purchasing gear and upgrades. For those who prefer a quicker route, you can also buy elden ring runes to skip the grind and focus on the action.

1. Gatefront Ruins (Limgrave)

Right at the start of your journey, the Gatefront Ruins are an ideal farming zone. The enemies here are slow and relatively weak, and there’s a Site of Grace nearby for quick resets. I found it easy to use stealth for backstabs, minimizing risk even further.

2. Warmaster’s Shack Area (Stormhill)

This quiet area near Warmaster’s Shack has a group of roaming soldiers and wolves that are easily separated. With proper spacing and a ranged weapon or spirit summons, it’s incredibly safe. I often used this spot when testing out new weapons or spells.

3. Agheel Lake North (Limgrave)

Near the Site of Grace, you’ll find scattered enemies that don’t aggressively aggro. It’s a tranquil spot for beginner rune farming. Plus, with Torrent, it’s easy to kite enemies and retreat safely if needed.

4. Church of Elleh (Limgrave)

This is more of a passive farming location. As you explore or idle nearby, occasional patrols can be picked off for low-effort runes. This was one of the first areas where I built confidence with my early-game melee build.

5. Liurnia Highway South

Once you reach Liurnia, this area is filled with slow-moving nobles and enemies that barely pose a threat. They're clustered and drop a decent amount of runes. I often came here with a ranged character and picked them off while staying completely out of reach.

6. Road to the Manor (Liurnia)

A personal favorite, this stretch is full of passive enemies, including spectral soldiers that can be taken down with minimal risk. It’s perfect for mid-game farming with little danger. I ran this route many times when preparing for the Caria Manor boss fights.

7. Deeproot Depths – Across the Roots

If you’ve progressed a bit further and unlocked Deeproot Depths, the “Across the Roots” Site of Grace leads to a few low-aggression enemies that drop high rune amounts. With a decent weapon, I was able to make loops through here efficiently without ever being close to death.

Whether you're just starting your journey or looking for a risk-free way to power up, these locations are proof that you don't need to risk it all to gather Elden Ring Runes. Of course, if grinding isn’t your style, many players choose to buy elden ring runes instead, saving time and diving straight into the deeper challenges the game has to offer.

Whichever path you choose, the key is consistency and awareness. In my time exploring these areas, I found that taking a cautious, methodical approach paid off far more than rushing into high-risk zones. Happy farming!
